If your dog loves to swim, or even if they just had a thorough bath, water can easily get trapped inside their ear canals. This dark, warm, and damp environment is the perfect breeding ground for yeast and bacteria, often leading to a condition commonly known as "Swimmer's Ear."
The Post-Swim Routine
Avoiding moisture-related ear issues is all about keeping the ear canal clean and dry after any water activity. Here is a simple routine to follow every time your dog gets wet:
- Towel Dry the Head: Start by gently drying the outside of your dog's ears and head with a towel to remove excess water.
- Clean and Flush: Use a gentle, alcohol-free cleanser to help displace the water and flush out any lake dirt or pool chemicals.
- Dry the Outer Flap: Wipe the visible inside of the ear flap to ensure it is completely dry.
💡 Recommended Post-Swim Kit:
Our Ear Cleaning Finger Wipes are perfect for this routine.
- Absorbent and Textured: The finger-sleeve design not only cleans but also helps absorb residual moisture from the outer ear canal entrance.
- Convenient for Travel: Easy to toss in your beach bag or car, so you can clean their ears the moment they get out of the water.
Note for Floppy-Eared Breeds: Breeds like Golden Retrievers, Labradors, and Poodles are especially prone to trapping moisture. For these dogs, you might also want to flip their ears back (exposing the canal to the air) while they nap after a swim to help them dry out naturally.
